The following Web site has been created to help all faculty who are interested in teaching a course online, but who do not understand all the steps in the process and who may need various kinds of support. The ensuing guide will take you step-by-step through the process. Not all portions of the guide will be needed. You can skip those sections for which you need no help. Below is a description of the 6 sections of this guide and a brief explanation of the contents: Step 1: Distance Education Teaching Resources. This section details the ancillary support services and documents that may aid distance educators as they prepare and implement their online classes. Step 2: Curriculum Process. Distance education courses require a separate review and approval process by your college curriculum committee. This section alerts you to the curriculum process that must be observed when taking courses online. You will find links to various curriculum forms and guidelines. Step 3: Development of Course Web Site. This section will acquaint you with the various options available to help guide your process of constructing a class Web site. Step 4: Online Technologies Needed. There are a number of Web-based technologies that will be useful in helping you to carry out an online class. You may elect to use some or all of these technologies. This section will contain information on how to request, set-up and use these different technologies. Step 5: Student Information. There are two types of communications that are critical prior to the beginning of your online class. You will need to have information about your students, and your students will need relevant information about the class. This section discusses the Student Information Form and the Student Welcome Letter. Step 6: Online Teaching Competencies. This section will lead you to online workshops and certification programs where you can improve your knowledge and skills in online learning prior to, or concurrent with teaching an online course. Step 7: Other Resources. This section includes links to resources and documents that can help you to answer common questions about teaching online. * I need help!
