How to answer NewsBank questions:

The NewsBank search screen has recently been reconfigured. Notice that the drop-down boxes on the left allow you different options for searching the newspaper. If you type in a subject with no dates the results will be ordered by the most recent articles first.

  1. Under America's Newspapers, select the Tribune
  2. Leave All Text in the first option box.
  3. The box after the connector (and) shows Date as the default. Leave it.
  4. In the box after Date (under the Search box) put in the date May 16, 2007.
  5. Type Los Osos Sewer in the Search box (to the left of the word Search).
  6. Choose Search.

(After question 28)

  1. Click on the back button until you return to the NewsBank main page.
  2. From American's Newspapers, choose California Papers.
  3. Choose the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News by checking those papers.
  4. There was an oil spill in somewhere in California in April, 2004, but you don't know where it happened. Leaving the defaults in the drop-down boxes, type 'oil spills in California' in the Search box and the date April 2004 after the Date box.
  5. Select Search. Check the articles your search found and answer the following question.
